While I like to think of the holidays as a time of peace & joy surrounded by loved ones, the truth is that holidays can be stressful!
But this year is going to be different. Why?
Because I have a plan, and I want to share it with you.
You ready? Let’s do this.
Here’s 5 simple ways to eliminate holiday stress:
1. Think ahead
Minimize the element of surprise (& the stress that comes with it) by planning ahead. Write a list of all the things you absolutely must get accomplished & when you plan on doing them. This includes cooking, cleaning, shopping, baking, visiting friends, writing holiday cards. everything. Remember to leave some time for those “Uh-Oh” moments that always seem to pop up!
2. Pace yourself
Instead of packing everything into one or two days, create a plan that has you operating at a steady & sustainable pace over the duration of the holiday season. Don’t plan to get all of your shopping done on one weekend; don’t plan to cook, bake, & clean all in one day. Plan to spend less time over several days instead. This slow & steady pace is a lot less stressful than the sprint-to-the-finish-line approach!
3. Ask for help
You don’t have to do everything yourself! Ask for help! Hosting the holiday party? Ask friends to bring dessert! Need something picked up at the store? Ask someone to go for you! There are many ways you can get others involved. After all, it is the holidays. Pop on some seasonal music & have some fun working together!
4. Remember to breathe
There will be moments of stress. There will be things that go “wrong.” There will be times when you want to through your brother-in-law out a window. Just breathe. It will all be ok. Before you start to panic, close your eyes, take a deep inhale & then exhale out all your frustration. This too shall pass.
5. Make time for yourself
Stay grounded by remembering to connect to yourself each & every day, even if it’s only for a few minutes. This can help you stay grounded by giving you time away from all the hustle & bustle. This is time just for you, to relax before another round of holiday bustle picks up!
