Procrastination.
Eck.
Doesn’t just hearing that word make you cringe? Why is that?
Well, because of all the other stuff we’ve been trained to associate procrastination with.
We’re told that people who procrastinate are lazy, careless, & inefficient (to name a few).
When we’re labeled a “procrastinator,” we’re trained to feel like there’s something wrong with us.
And the worst part is that we believe it.
But did you know that procrastination can actually be a good thing; that it’s merely a symptom, & not really a problem at all?
When you intentionally put off doing something, that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you; it means there’s something wrong with the situation!
Ok, hear me out.
When was the last time you put off doing something you actually wanted to do?
Probably never, right?
If you actually wanted to do it, why would you put it off?
So if you think about it, procrastination is really the key to understanding your passions and interests!
Feeling excited about doing something and not wanting to put it off is a sure sign you’re on the right path!
Procrastination is also a sneaky little way for your intuition to communicate that something isn’t quite right.
For example, try to answer the following questions honestly:
- Is there one particular friend you keep procrastinating to call?
- Is there a specific task at work you repeatedly neglect?
- Is there a conversation with a co-worker that you keep putting off?
These are all signs that something is amiss!
Here’s where it gets tricky though.
If you have low self-worth, and constantly put the needs of others over your own, you could be procrastinating on your own self-care!
However the same principle applies as before; you’re putting your own wellness aside because something isn’t right.
So here’s the message, sweet and simple:
Stop berating yourself for procrastinating!
There’s probably a good reason for it. All you have to do is figure out what that reason is and act on it!
The challenge for today is to take a few minutes to examine the areas of your life that you keep putting off.
